Solar panels on the roof now power production

The roof over the workshop in Älmhult now carries solar panels. The power they produce goes straight into production and is used the same day it is made, with no detour through anyone else's grid.
Why the roof
A workshop of 8,000 square metres is short of most things but has plenty of roof. The surface was already there doing nothing, while laser cutting and press braking are operations that draw power and always will. The consumption cannot be designed away, but where the power comes from can be changed, and that was the part we could do something about.
What it means if you are buying
More of our customers have to account for their own supply chain, which makes a subcontractor's energy something they need an answer to. We have one. If you run a supplier assessment that covers energy, get in touch and we will put together what you need.
It should be said plainly: a solar array on a workshop roof does not settle the climate question and we are not going to claim it does. The part you order is neither better nor worse for where the current came from. What it does is move some of the consumption from bought electricity to our own, and that is an improvement you can point at rather than rephrase.
The material pulls the same way
Stainless is rarely chosen because it is cheapest. It is chosen because it lasts for decades in environments that eat other materials and because it can be recycled over and over without losing its properties. A tank that stands for thirty years and is then melted down is a sustainability argument in itself, long before anyone counts the roof above it.
It seemed reasonable that the making of it should pull the same way the material does.
